Maura L. Scott
Dr. Maura Scott is the Dr. Persis E. and Dr. Charles E. Rockwood Eminent Scholar Chair in Marketing in the Rockwood School of Marketing at Florida State University’s College of Business (Ph.D. Arizona State University, M.S. and B.S. Purdue University). Her research interests include consumer behavior, consumer and societal well-being, public policy, and services marketing. She is interested in studying how to help improve consumers’ financial, health, and food decisions, particularly among vulnerable populations.
Dr. Scott is Joint Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing (JPP&M). She also serves as Associate Editor/Area Editor for the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, and Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science; she previously served as Associate Editor at the Journal of Marketing. She is also on the Editorial Review Boards of leading journals including the Journal of Marketing and the Journal of Consumer Psychology.
Dr. Scott is the President of the American Marketing Association’s Academic Council. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Association for Consumer Research (ACR), as the Industry Perspectives Director.
Her research has been published in leading scholarly journals including the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Service Research, Journal of Economic Psychology, and Appetite, among others.
Dr. Scott has won several prestigious awards and grants based on her research, including the Thomas C. Kinnear Best Paper Award (JPP&M) as well as a Robert Ferber Award Honorable Mention (Journal of Consumer Research). She was also selected as a Marketing Science Institute (MSI) Young Scholar. At Florida State University, she received the College of Business Outstanding Senior Faculty Research Award. She has also won numerous MSI and ACR grants for her research.
She also won the 2021 Williams-Qualls-Spratlen Multicultural Mentorship Award of Excellence. This award recognizes outstanding marketing scholars and mentors of multicultural students and junior colleagues. The WQS award is named after Jerome Williams, Thad Spratlen, and Bill Qualls.
Her work has been mentioned in leading outlets, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Time, Forbes, Fast Company and Entrepreneur. It has also been covered in lifestyle magazines such as Women’s Health, Allure, Shape, Prevention, Consumer Reports and Good Housekeeping.
Dr. Scott’s industry background includes marketing management positions at 3M Company, Dial Corporation, and Motorola. She enjoys incorporating both her scholarly research and her industry background when she teaches the undergraduate consumer behavior course and Ph.D. seminars in consumer behavior.
She especially enjoys taking road trips and traveling with her husband Martin. She loves spending time with her family and friends. Maura also likes learning about different cultures through meeting new people, traveling, and reading.
